Family's Introduction to Au Pair

We are a young professional couple (Michael is in real estate and Moira is a French-immersion school teacher) with three beautiful, happy daughters aged 1 year, 5 years and 7 years old. Our older daughters are attending a French-only school near our house. We love to go for walks on the seawall or in the forest, and to playgrounds for the kids to play. We love good food and eat a fairly healthy diet at home.

Grouse mountain is only a few minutes from our house if you like skiing or snowboarding.

Our older daughter loves anything pink and girly, and could spend the whole day colouring and drawing. She is very independent and has a strong sense of empathy.

Our middle daughter has lots of energy and loves to copy her older sister, but also has an active imagination and can spend hours making her toys role-play with each other. She often wants to do things on her own terms, but she also loves to be a clown and makes us laugh all the time.

Moira speaks French with the children much of the time, and Michael really only speaks English. We would like an au pair who is fluent in French so that you can speak French exclusively with the children, and we would be happy to speak with you in English if you want to learn it.

We also have a puppy - a small "maltipoo" named Cola, who needs very little maintenance.

In general, we are an easy-going and happy family. We love our children very much and need someone we can trust to protect them and nurture them when we are not home. We have had several wonderful au pairs over the past 5 years. Each girl was unique, and each experience different (in part because our children were a different age each time), and each girl became a beloved part of our family during their stay. Some have even returned to visit!

We look forward to meeting our next au pair!

Job Description

***Please note we are now looking for someone to join our family who can stay for the whole school year next year (September 2014 to July 2015). ***

We would like a patient, energetic, kind, and dependable au pair to be responsible for walking our girls a short distance to and from school or the school bus each day, preparing snacks and meals for them, playing with and cleaning up after the children, bathing, dressing and reading to them, and helping with homework, as well as general housekeeping. Moira will be returning to work part time in September, so you will need to look after the baby (who will be 1 year old in April) during the day, feeding, changing, playing, stimulating her and keeping her safe when she is not sleeping.

We live in a new, very clean and comfortable house in beautiful North Vancouver, with mountains on one side and ocean on the other, and many parks and trails in-between. Accommodation will be a comfortable room with a queen-size bed and shared bathroom. Television and wireless internet are provided, along with all the amenities of a home.

We will need you to look after the children while the father is at work (Monday-Friday, 8-5), although our older daughters are in school from 9-3. We also need help with housework including cleaning and laundry. If you like cooking, you are welcome to help make dinners.

Because babies can add some irregularity into a daily schedule, we need someone who is adaptable and flexible, ready to help out whenever help is needed. Ideally, our au pair will be someone who, after a little while, will be able to take initiative and help us with household tasks without needing to be asked. Cleanliness and organization are very important to us.

Please note that it is of primary importance to us that our au pair can speak French, even if it is not a first language for her. It would be great if she is already in Canada or has a visa for Canada so there is no uncertainty about her ability to come here, but we are open to all good candidates.

We look forward to hearing from au pairs.
