| Sylvia is of Greek origin but has lived in the UK for over 20 years. Peng is British-born Chinese, and has lived in London all his life. Peng is an IT Project Manager in a Bank. His interests are photography, dance and sports. Sylvia works from home, in property management and property development. She is interested in art, languages and healthy/alternative living. We are both interested and passionate about good food and we tend to eat healthy, organic fresh food which we enjoy cooking, although sometimes the children's appetites can make the task rather challenging.
We live in London, between Angel and Old Street stations in a spacious, comfortable loft apartment. We are very close to central London and have very good transport links. London Bridge, King's Cross, Paddington and Oxford Street can easily be reached by buses (on a 20-minute journey). Also, Islington, Hoxton and Clerkenwell with all their bars, shops, restaurants and galleries are a short walk away, as is the City of London and a plethora of language schools, colleges and universities. We are a few minutes walk to the local canal and there are quite a few parks nearby.
We would like to have an au-pair to help look after our 8.5 year old son (Alkis), 5.5 year old daughter (Elli) and 3 year old son Aris.
We need someone to supervise the children and make sure that their routine is not disturbed, especially if Aris is demanding my attention, I'm preparing dinner or I'm working.
All three children are quite artistic and like music, dancing and drawing/painting a great deal. They also like climbing/jumping, as they have a large playpen in our living area with a bouncy castle, slide etc. We are a very relaxed and child-centred family (our home is full of primary colours) and the children are keen in pinning up their artistic endeavours in the 'gallery' - our walls(!).
On Tuesdays and Thursdays we would like help to get the children ready and take to school in the mornings, from 7:30-9:30am. Peng usually takes the eldest 2 children to school and you would take the youngest to nursery, either on the bus (2 stops) or a 10/15 minute walk. Aris is currently going to nursery on a drop-in schedule, once or twice a week. He should be on a permanent 3-day schedule from January 2010, when spaces at the nursery become available. On the days he will not be going to nursery he will either stay at home during the day or will be taken out for walks, subject to the weather. On Tuesdays and Thursdays you will also need to collect the two eldest children from school at 3:30pm and take them home. Sylvia will, on most occasions collect Aris from nursery after 4:00pm, although there might be times when you will have to collect Aris from nursery after having picked-up the other two children, if there is an emergency and Sylvia cannot make it to nursery on time. Then the children will need to be supervised and entertained until bedtime at or around 8:30pm. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays help will be required in the afternoon from 3:30 until 8:30pm. This will involve collecting the eldest children from school (Aris would be either at home with the housekeeper or at nursery) at 3:30pm, and again, take them home and supervise/entertain them and/or cook and give them dinner if Sylvia is not around to so do.
There might be occasions when you will need to take Aris with you to school and pick-up the eldest two kids. Sometimes Sylvia comes home early from work so she can look after Aris while the two eldest children are being picked up. On other occasions our housekeeper is around during the pick-up time and she looks after Aris so our aupair only has the two children to bring back.
Once Aris starts nursery then he will need to be collected around 4:00pm from nursery. This task might be shared with Sylvia depending on Sylvia's workload. The children then need to be occupied until and during dinner time and I would need help with putting them to bed around 8:00pm, especially if Peng is not in. We would also like some light housework doing, mostly related to the children, as we have a housekeeper who comes 3 days/week for all other duties. Total hours per week would be 35-40 approx. This means that the position is for an Au Pair Plus and the salary is negotiable subject to the individual. There might be some occasional weekend and evening work, but the job is mostly for the weekdays and we are very flexible.
We would really like our aupair to be part of our family and we would be keen to help find language schools or other places to study. We will of course also help you to improve your English if this is one of your goals. We will guide you on how to explore London so that you can make new friends and enjoy this experience. If you think we're the kind of family you'd like to spend some time with, then please get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you.
