| We are looking for French speakers to live with our family. Our purpose is to have our 9-year-old son learn to speak French. For this reason, we would like to have a series of au pairs, until our boy is grown.
WE WILL PROVIDE:
-- An invitation to live with us and be a part of our family.
-- Room and board (daily meals) with us.
-- An iPhone.
-- You WILL NOT have your own private room; most Japanese don't. You WILL have a private room in which to sleep at night.
-- A daily chance to speak Japanese with our son's grandparents.
-- A Japanese cultural experience.
-- A daily chance to speak English and Japanese with the boy's Japanese mother.
-- A daily chance to speak English with the boy's father, who is from the U.S.
-- Participation in family activities
ABOUT GIFU CITY: It has 410,000 people. It is surrounded by green mountains full of monkeys and mamushi, and clear rivers full of o-sanshouo, ayu and kappa.
Also, there are a few volunteer groups near our home which offer free (or super cheap) Japanese lessons.
You can find more information about Gifu City, the place in Japan where we live, by contacting the Gifu International Center.
ABOUT US:
Yuko is 53 years old (but she looks like 23), and has lived on the same land with her parents in Gifu for almost all her life (as has her father). She speaks English pretty well. She likes flamenco, sking, baking bread (including frenchbread) and eating out. Now, she is learning to drive. For about 28 years, she has been running a coffee shop/restaurant adjacent to the house. It has a western (occidental) style and western food. I, Paul am 54 years old, and come from the U. S.A. I have lived in Japan for 18 years (but never learned the language). My hobbies have included skiing, hiking, backpacking, photography, and now astronomy. I teach English and help Yuko cook when she is busy. Yuko & I married 9 years ago, and had Fred (Ferdrico). Yuko has 2 boys from a previous marriage. They are Hiroshi, age 32 (he can speak English), and Jun, age 28 (he cannot speak English). Hiroshi lives a couple kilometers away with his wife and baby Soma. Jun works in a blowfish restaurant in nearby Nagoya, and lives there with his wife and baby Sena. Fred's grandmother (Baa-chan) & grandfather (Jii-chan) do a lot of the rearing of Fred (They cannot speak English). Ba-ba-chan, Jii-chan's mother, died in 2004 at age 95!
HERE ARE SOME MORE DETAILS WHICH MAY PRE-EMPT SOME OF YOUR FUTURE QUESTIONS:
We cannot help you with Japanese Immigration to obtain your visa.
If you arrive at Nagoya Airport (Centrair), we can pick you up at that airport, but if you come to Tokyo or Osaka airports, you must come to Gifu by yourself.
Japan has national health insurance, for ¥18,000/year. If you buy appropriate health insurance in your country, then the Japanese insurance requirement would be waived. We feel this this is VERY cheap since everything is expensive in Japan.
You are welcome to stay as long or as short a time as you like, as long as Fred's French is progressing.
Most Japanese are quite insular in regards to allowing non-family, let alone foreigners, into their homes, so this is a very rare offer. |
