| Au Pair's Message to Families |
| My name is Bianca , I’m 21 yo and I live with my parents and my youngest brother in Tremembé, countryside of São Pauloemembé is a touristic town in the axis that unites Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo. There is an old train station, a lot of churches and historical buildings. These places attract tourists from everywhere and once a year we have the anual “Bom Jesus” (Good Jesus) festival which has typical food, concerts and procession to honor our patron saint. We have a family ice cream parlor. We have been in the ice cream business for more than thirteen years. I have two siblings, the oldest’s name is Paula and she is 25. Paula is a psychologist and lives with her husband Fabio next town. Nik is 19 and decided to keep the family business. He works at our ice cream truck, and every Sundays I help him at the town square, and on Saturdays after college I work with my mother at the ice cream parlor. We don’t have much free time, and usually spend our family moments working. It sounds heavy, but it’s a pleasant work and besides I’m close to my family. Since I decided to become an Au Pair I have been preparing myself to stay far from this routine I know so well! Working at the ice cream parlor we meet a lot of people. One of them is a very special little boy named Paulinho. He’s 9 yo and when he was only five he used to collect recycling items on the neighborhood streets. We started to get close until he became our newest and youngest family member. Sometimes he sleeps in our house, and even helps us at the ice cream parlor! I can’t forget Gaby. I have been looking after her since 2006 and as my first experience as baby sitter, I have to say that it was unforgettable! We get along very well. Her parents are a young couple that really like to pass weekends out of town, so almost every weekends I was responsible for taking care of her. I usually pick her up from school, and when we were at her home, we played games, drawing, make dinner togheter and when she had to go to bed I always read a history for her. I have a lot of students too. Some of them are very yob!But I always had a way to calm them down: I aplly games in my classes, they really enjoy it and cooperate which other. They had already won some championships, and we always celebrate with parties, with cakes and a lot of ice cream off course! We get allong very well, most of my soccer students are my swimming students too, they are all from the same club, and I teach hydrogym for their parents too. Is very nice, I have a lot of fun with them! And I'm sure that they are learning the content and playing at the same time, besides, they are children, and children need to have some fun too. I have always been fond of sports. I played handball representing my town. And I also fought Jiu-Jitsu for eight years and won the national championship. After hurting my knee last year I had to stop competing, and nowadays I take it easy on the training. Even without competing, I never stopped practice physical activities - it may not seem so because I’m chubby! And this love for sports motivated me to follow the teaching career, as the physical activity became so important to me. I’m attending the second grade of Physical Education at University of Taubaté and I’m a trainee teacher on children swimming, hidrogymnastics, soccer and handball initiation in a club next town called Taubaté.I spend most of my day in Taubaté, which is about 5 miles from my town. I drive everyday from one city to another and many of my friends have that same routine, so I always give someone a ride. Whenever I have free time I put my friends in the car and we go to a friend’s countryside house. There we ride horses, fish –though I feel sorry for the little fishes – we also camp, make bonfires and go trekking. My town is also near the beach (about an hour and a half), and on the few weekends I have, we go down to the beach. I love calm places! I’ve always tried to combine pedagogy with the sportive modalities in my classes college we learned many ways to entertain children through physical activity and recreation. We also learn how develop movement, language, perception, memory among other intelligences, and I’m quite comfortable with dealing with this subjects influenced when choosing which interchange program to take. I’m very excited about this experience. Observing the behavior and participating on a family’s routine, especially with a child from a country different than mine will be a great personal and professional experienceere are many reasons I want to be an au pair. It just seems perfect the fact I’m going to gather life experience, culture interchange, improving my english language skills without leaving my studies.I know it may be hard to leave my country and familiy, but I’m commited to grow as a person, and living abroad surely will make this possible. Feel free to make any questions and tell me more about your family! Best regards! |
