Au Pair job description

- prepare lunchbox for Killian in the morning - walk Killian to school for 8:55 - pick Killian up from school at 15:05 - play with Killian (and sometimes a friend from school) until approx. 17:00 when one of us normally comes home - in your own time (i.e. some of this will only have to be done once a week - like ironing!) take care of the ironing, help preparing dinner (chop veg etc.), empty dishwasher, tidy playroom with Killian etc. - normally you are off on weekends and evenings - because Killian is at school for most of the day, we would be very happy for our Au Pair to also have another part-time job or indeed so some child-minding for ohter families in the area - of course only if you wanted to!! If you prefer to do language classes or whatever else, that's also fine, of course

Family's Message to Au Pairs

Dear Au Pair, we are Katja (German 38), Martin (Irish 4) and Killian 6 (a bit of both...) living in the English East Midlands in a small town called Ripley, 15 km from Derby City. Unfortunately our current Au Pair has to go back to Germany as a matter of urgency due to some family problems. We are therefore looking for a new Au Pair to start in January 2009 and stay, if possible, until next summer (at least). While our family language is English (Martin does not speak German), we always like our Au Pairs to speak German with our son Killian as he is bilingual and we are hoping to maintain his good level of German. We are looking for an outgoing, friendly, fun, independent and responsible girl who has some experience in baby-sitting/child-minding, is willing to do some light housework, such as ironing, preparing meals, emptying dishwasher, washing machine etc. We are a very European family, always back and forth visiting Germany and Ireland or having friends/family visiting us. Some weeks can get very busy with Martin and I both working full-time and me travelling quite a bit as well. Killian goes to school for most of the day and enjoys after school activities such as Karate, football and swimming. We all have to be quite well organised but with everybody pulling together it mostly works out very well and is a lot of fun. On weekends we often enjoy outings in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside but also love just relaxing, playing etc. at home. Because Killian is in school for most of the day, we would be quite happy for you to find another part-time job or indeed so some babysitting for other families in the area. It's really important that our Au Pair is a self-starter and shows lots of initiative! We would hate for you to just sit around the house for most of the day. Clearly, the Au Pair year is a time that will never come back and we want you to get the most out of this experience!! We have had German Au Pairs ever since Killian was born and any of them, will be more than happy to give you a reference.
