| Dear Au Pair,
We live in Cagliari in a safe and green area, 3 km from the seaside. Driving skills are much preferred to help us shopping, or if you want to enjoy in the evening or over the weekends.
What I therefore need is a somehow flexible approach, yet being able to adapt to different circumstances. I may ask the aupair to go and do something for me, while I watch both kids... Consider in addition that in summer we tend to go the beach every day. In that case I do not thing it is a matter of how many working hours.. we already booked a place on the beach, reserved for us.. I don't think it is a bad option for an aupair, to stay here and go to the beach almost very day...
I can say we are talking about 25-30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, as I said very flexible organised ;my daughters are Giulia and Sara. Sometimes some babysitting nights will be required and/or some cover-ups on Saturdays/Sundays are required. Of course cumulative effort of 25-30 hours will not be overcome.
In terms of what we would like the aupair to do with Giulia ans Sara : drawing and playing instruments (something easy, of course), painting, going to the playground. It is preferred if conversation with Giulia ans Sara is in English, as they are 6 years' old and 3 years' old.
Two important things: we will have a cleaning lady for the heavy things, two times a week; the aupair will have her own private room and bathroom; the bathroom is shared with someone only when we hosts my husband's parents, few times per semester.
The aupair is expected to fully provide for Giulia and Sara's cooking and tyding up their room.
In terms of free time, during the week, you can certainly attend Italian classes, but the offer is limited in Cagliari. Eventually it is probably better to self-organise (couple of hours of english classes in exchange of couple of hours of italian classes: Cagliari hosts a university, so there are plenty of young people around).
Over the weekends, you can travel around. It is an island and as a consequence if you want to visit Italy you are to get a flight. It is not very expensive if you are under 26 (say euro 100 return for Milan/Rome) or using other low cost flights, but timing is limited as we do need the aupair beback here on Monday morning first thing. My husband and I both work as consultants I work in his own company and he travels a lot. Therefore there will be some need of covering us during nights should we travel for work.
We have good references from previous and current aupairs should you need to consult them.
Cheers,
Alessandra
