| Dear Family,
First off we would like to thank you for reading our letter. We know it takes alot of time to find the right person, and we appreciate that you are taking the time to consider us.
We are an au pair couple currently living in Guatemala. Both Diego and I are 20 years old, fluent in English and looking to spend some time in Europe. We're looking to find a fun-loving, caring, happy family who likes to travel and do activities together. We're planning on traveling to Europe in August of 2009, and we'd like to work as an au pair couple in order to get to know another culture, another country and another family.
Our work history and experience:
I (Paula) love working with kids, and I think that the best way to get to know a new country is living with a family from there. I have a lot of experience working with children of all ages. I started when I was young, I have 4 younger brothers and sisters and I always took care of them. When I was 12 I started babysitting for other families, and did that for several years. I still have communication with these families today. After I graduated I worked as a nanny and personal assistant for 2 years. I paid bills, did errands, housework, cooking, laundry and other tasks while taking care of a baby of 7 months (24/7 care). I still call and visit this family whenever I can, and the baby, now two-and-a-half, calls me "Sweetie". Most recently I have been teaching English here in Guatemala while trying to improve my Spanish. I would be very happy to play with your children, cook for them, help with homework, or whatever else they need. (I do not have a license, but I can drive, and may be able to get one if necessary.)
Diego is the supervisor for an airline here in Guatemala City. With this job he has a lot of work and a lot of responsibility, although due to this amount of work he has unfortunately had to suspend his studies. He would be happy to do whatever work you need done by him as an au pair, and is willing to help me with childcare. He has a solid resume and we would be happy to send you a copy. He also has a driving license and is an excellent and dependable driver. He has a passport from Guatemala and a visa for the U.S. He is fluent in both be visiting Spain, Italy, France, Belgium, and Holland in November and would be willing to meet your family then so you can be more comfortable choosing us as your au pairs.
What we are looking for:
We are hoping for a job in Paris, Rome or Barcelona, but will consider a job in any large city in those countries, or possibly in Portugal. We are negotiable as far as salary, taking into consideration hours worked, addition tasks, costs for required language classes, transportation costs, etc. We are expecting that the position will be live-in, however if you are willing to provide separate accommodation we would prefer that. We will be willing to do some housework that is agreed upon by ourselves and the host family prior to our arrival. If you have any other concerns or questions feel free to send us an email.
Getting to know us:
I love all kinds of art. I like to study it and draw and paint in my spare times all sports, but especially soccer (of course!). We both like to eat healthy and go to the gym, we usually go at night, 3-5 times a week. We both enjoy a very wide variety of music. Neither of us can attend college right now, Diego due to his demanding job, and me to the high cost, but we are happy to learn anything we can, and are especially looking forward to learning about your country and language. I enjoy studying political science, art, psychology, mythology, history studied business administration in the past, and enjoys watching documentaries about architecture, modern technology and especially planes. I think I can say the three things that Diego likes most are traveling, soccer and planes. If I chose three I would say traveling, kids and art.
I think our different interests are great because they give us more to offer, to each other and to your family. Happily, we share the love of travel! We think one of the most important things in traveling is to really spend time in a place. You can't know any place after being there only a week or two. So maybe your country will be the next that we get to know!!
Please feel free to contact us for any more information, or to get to know more about us! Thank you for your time and we hope to hear from you soon!
Sincerely, Diego and Paula
PS. Sorry if the letter was too long!! We just want to show you that we are serious about this, and we're really excited and hopeful about this great opportunity!! |
