The primary responsibilities are: Help care for our 1 Year Old son. Experience and skills at interacting with an infant/toddler are absolutely required! Play with and help care for our 4 year old daughter. Help maintaining the household with at home mom - (mother's helper.) Facilitate family travel and activity outside of the home. Household duties include help with: Meal preparation Laundry Errands Tidying after the kids [We have a housekeeper come in so you are NOT expected to clean the whole house.]

Family's Message to Au Pairs and Nannies

Us -- New York City area, child centered, Canadian/American family where there is always one parent at home during the day. We have a lovely four year old daughter who loves to play and learn, and who is never found in front of a TV. We also have a son who is 1 year old. We enjoy local and distant travel, and indoor and outdoor activities. We live about 1 hour outside of New York City in Ridgefield, a great town located in southwestern Connecticut. We are also not too far from skiing areas, Boston MA, and the Berkshire mountains. Local activities include sledding and ice skating, summer swimming, neighborhood activities with other children, apple picking, shopping, the beach (the Ct. shore is a short drive away), hiking, etc. We go into Manhattan frequently as a family and enjoy all the city has to offer, while living in a beautiful community that has great resources, schools and activities for kids. Our kitchen is primarily stocked with healthy food and we eat a diverse diet including some meat. Chocolate is welcome as well! You -- are an intelligent, caring, responsible au pair with experience and references. You have a sincere interest in pre-school age children - maybe a career interest in teaching or childcare, and the skills to match. You understand that caring for a child is both a job and an important responsibility, and you are attentive and patient to a fault! You have lots of energy and enjoy creative, expressive play and enriching interaction with a 4 year old. You also have the patience to hold a 1 year old and comfort him, keep his attention, and interact creatively. You enjoy outdoor activities, but are gentle and attentive to the abilities and limitations of a learning child. You are willing to help in the kitchen and able to prepare light meals. You are willing to do light clean-up after the kids, and some laundry. You are creative, can plan activities and art projects, and can get down and participate with kids, not just direct them from a distance. We promote an environment of mutual respect. Our expectation is a responsible, attentive au pair. We will respect your privacy and time off, and look forward to embracing you as part of the family.
