| Creative College Graduate looking for lovely family! |
| Au Pair's Message to Families |
| Hello! My name is Rachel , I am 22 years old, born in Los Angeles, California, USA. I graduated Skidmore College in New York last spring with a major in English and a minor in Studio Art. I love being with children of all ages and have been babysitting since I was thirteen years old. For the past two years I have taken care of a wonderful little boy in New York and had the incredible pleasure of watching him grow up a little. I have taken care of kids of all ages, and am comfortable caring for babies to older children. I feel that I have a special connection with children, because they cause me to see all that is beautiful and hopeful in the world; they remind me of something greater than myself, something that is hopeful. I am a very creative person, love doing art projects, reading (my favorite personal activity), hiking, engaging in new cultural rituals, exploring, learning, going on excursions. I have taught art classes for children, and love to teach. Although I am a little embarrassed listing off my good attributes, I can say confidently that I am a warm person and have the patience and insight to be a good companion to a child. My ambition is to be a writer of fiction. I want to move somewhere very different from my home in America and experience a new kind of life. Besides becoming part of a family abroad, my plan is to be reading and writing as much as possible. I am using these next two or three years to gain life experience and get in as much writing practice as possible before going to graduate school to get an MFA in creative writing. My job would have to allow me to have time to pursue my literary goals in addition to my au pair obligations. I come from a very close, loving family, so I have been brought up with a strong sense of familial bonds. I have a younger brother and older sister, two loving parents, and an enormous extended family totaling in 33 first cousins - all of whom I have the pleasure of knowing well! My older sister Alexis, who is an extraordinary writer and artist herself, has high-functioning Autism, a developmental disability. I have grown up around people with special needs my whole life, and am comfortable working with your child if he or she has learning challenges. I am very fond of travel and have had the privilege of seeing a lot of the world. During my junior year of college, I spent five months in Western Africa, in the small country of Ghana. This stay taught me that I am capable of handling a very different lifestyle from the one I’m used to. I thrive on new experiences and friendships. I want more than anything to expand my mind, to keep on learning. I would especially like to move somewhere where I would be able to take lessons where I could improve my Spanish until I am 100% fluent. I don’t think I ever want to stop being a student, because my love in life is learning. Can’t wait to meet you!
