| Dear Family, My name is Rebecca and I’m an 18 year old girl from Niederroßbach, a small town in the west of Germany. I am currently attending High school and will graduate and get my A-level results at the end of March 2009. Afterwards, I would love to spend a year as an Au Pair in America because this is something that I have wanted to do for many years.
Why I want to become an Au Pair in America... The most important reason is that I really love children. I have always enjoyed caring for them. I've been babysitting at neighbours, friends and relatives since I was 13 and I've never had a job that I find more exciting and fun and that makes me as happy as caring for children. In the future, I think I would really enjoy a job where I work with children, so when I return back home to Germany I have plans on teaching either primary school or foreign language. I love learning foreign languages. In March I will have 8 and a half years worth of knowledge in the English language and I think the time as an Au Pair in America is a great opportunity for me to improve my English skills. I also love learning about different cultures and traditions and I think that I'll collect many experiences abroad. I've always been fascinated by America and so I am really looking forward to living there and experiencing the “American way of life” during my year as an Au Pair.
About my childcare experiences... I am very lucky to have a neighbourhood filled with lots of children of all ages. I started babysitting when I was 11 and I enjoyed every minute I spent with the kids. I especially love my 7 year old neighbour Lisa. She is really an angel. I have been caring for her since she was born. I pushed her in her stroller, helped her walk her first steps and also helped her ride her bike for the very first time. Some of her first words that she ever spoke were taught by me, and when it was time for her to go to the kindergarten I was with her. Because of all these things she has become very dear to me and whenever we happen to meet people on the street she tells them that I am her “Big best friend”:) It’s really amazing and fascinating to watch children grow up so fast. I did a work experience program in a kindergarten when I was 15 and I enjoyed it very much. I also worked in a school for disabled children when I was 17. This was really a challenge for me because I had never dealt with special needs children before and while working at the school I learnt how to deal with the needs of the disabled children.
For the past 4 years I have ministered to the 3 to 6 year old children at my church and I just love working with them. I am their group leader and I give them interesting activities to work on. We do handcrafts, pray together, read the bible, talk about our faith and play games. I have also been on weekend trips with the kids where we had campfires and bible workshops. The work with the children at church is very important to me. I hope to encourage them to life a live with Jesus and to accept him into their lives as their personal saviour. I thank God for every minute that I spend with the kids at church, because these moments are really very precious for me. I also enjoy being a tutor for the children in both English and Math. I teach them two times a week. Throughout all these experiences, I have learned a lot about the needs of different types of children. I know that working with children isn't the easiest job to do because you must be very patient with them but I know I can handle it.
More about my personality... I’d find myself very responsible, caring, and patient in dealing with people, especially with children. I am mature, honest, trustworthy, funny, and very easy to get along with. I am very family-oriented and I'd feel comfortable in a large family who would like to include me in family activities.
I love God and Jesus and I have a strong desire to do his will. I am a devoted Christian and I attend church services regularly. My faith in God is very important to me. I'd like to find a family with the same Christian values as I have. I will be a good role model for the kids and help you raise them accordingly. I would like a family who attends church services regularly and I hope that with God's help I will find a family who will treat me as a member of their family. In my spare time I like reading books, meeting with my friends and I am really fond of travelling and seeing and discovering different places, cities and countries. I am very creative and I really enjoy things like baking or cooking ( I'd be happy to do this in your family as well ;)) I also love taking photos and I am very much involved in church.
If there is anything else that you need to know or if you have any other questions please feel free to ask and I'd be pleased to answer ;)
I'd love to hear from you soon and I am looking forward to get in contact with you...
