Au Pair's Message to Families
Dear Potential Family Matches!

I will first explain several of the qualities I uphold as a nanny/aupair before I explain my background. I am a self-starter. I get things done. I am dependable, reliable, efficient, and I aspire to be a role model for children. I believe I would be an amazing addition to any family who is open minded to the idea of me helping to mold a child to be well rounded and respectful.

I am a professional person by nature with an appreciation for learning and education. I do not tolerate rudeness and disrespectfulness; good manners go a LONG way! I don’t like to yell, but I have no problem giving a time-out, or if the kids are older – discussing with them why I felt their behavior inappropriate and how we could incorporate good manners. Discipline when needed most definitely needs to be discussed with the parents beforehand. I do not want any misunderstandings.

I also believe that you’re only young once and experiencing the outdoors should be taken advantage of whenever possible (I am not a supporter of children being cooped up indoors in front of a TV and video games.) Whether it’s getting involved in sports or just enjoying the outdoors, I will support almost anything (walking, biking, skating, reading a book outside!) Oh, and I LOVE Board games (excellent for stimulating a child’s mind)!

I very much believe that all children should enjoy the outdoors as much as possible (there’s plenty of time during adulthood to become engrossed in TV, video games, and a 9-5 desk job requiring you to sit indoors all day). When it comes to enjoying activities, safety is #1! It’s never fun when a child gets hurt, I try my best to make sure accidents never happen on my watch (helmets, sun-block, and bug spray.) As well as the children are always in eyes view from me unless a parent or relative is available. I take full responsibility when minors are under my supervision; I take it very seriously (without being a kill-joy :)

When it comes to kids & food, healthy all the way! I have enjoyed learning and incorporating a natural/organic lifestyle and believe it’s very beneficial to being on a healthy road. If all else fails and you can’t incorporate natural/organic foods – it’s still not a difficult task to make sure the kids eat right.

I love making salads and sandwiches, fruits are yummy for any part of the day. I've learned how to cook a little for dinner since Mac & Cheese and hot dogs just didn't seem good enough :). There’s also nothing wrong with sweets, the trick is finding the right sweets and never over-indulging (dark chocolate, frozen yogurt, soy ice cream, ginger snaps.) Nothing wrong with cake or cookies, natural ingredients and moderation are the key!

For the past couple months, I have come to know a wonderful family in Huntington Woods MI. I am proud to say I have the privilege of babysitting their almost 2 year old son and 7 year old daughter, as well as “play chauffeur” to take the daughter to ice skating and soft ball practice every week. The children are so full of life, and their mother is an amazing woman. I made friends for life and I’m so glad I had the chance. I hope to have the same experience with everyone else I come into contact with.

I must warn though, many times my personality could be taken the wrong way and misunderstood. I come off reserved, quiet, maybe shy – I am a simple person who always speaks their mind. If I have concerns, complaints, or questions I will speak up. Otherwise I am internally a peaceful person by nature.

I love reading books, singing, making origami, coloring, puzzles and card games! Movies are a wonderful treat for the whole family (I very much prefer wholesome movies over TV – no horror films please.) I love doing beadwork although it’s been sooo long since I’ve last made anything. Also, I ADORE the holiday season (not necessarily the cold weather) but everything else is so wonderful.

With all that in mind, I want to make taking care of your home and family a new life for me. Nothing could please me more than to meet the needs of a loving family. I seek nothing but to be a positive addition to your life. So if you think you’re a match for me I’d love to hear about you and your family, details are always good and pictures are great!

Most Sincerely, Lydia
