Au Pair's Message to Families

Dear Family, At first I would like to thank you for visiting my profile! Let me introduce myself and talk about my expectations. My name is Karina, I am a 21-year-old brazilian, I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, a big and beautiful city. I am a girl who enjoys the simple life. I enjoy cycling, swimming, roller-skating and some sports. Moreover, I love reading, watching movies, going to the theater and having fun with kids and pets. I live with my grandpa Luthero, my grandma Léa, my mom Regina, my brother Leandro. We also have a dog called Sky who is a great friend and part of the family. In the street next to mine lives my sister Débora, her husband Márcio and my lovely nephew Gabriel, who is 4 years old. He’s a smart and adorable boy. As my sister and her husband work a lot, Gabriel is always in my house. I help taking care of him since he was born, we are very attached to each other, he is my passion! I have a great experience with children. I love taking care and playing with them. I took care of Jennyfer , a friend’s daughter, when she was 2 years old. Jennyfer is an adorable princess! Nowadays she is 8 years old, we still are very close and we get together very often. I also worked in a private school van as a children supervisor. I used to do children’s games, sing songs, tell stories, and whatever I could to entertain them. I also had to be firm to keep them on their seats, but always with a lot of kindness and respect. It was really rewarding to spend time with them. I have a lot of little cousins, so I’m always helping taking care of them. I love it! I study Language Arts – Portuguese / English and I intend to graduate when I come back. It is a very interesting major and I will be able to use a lot of what I’ve been learning in college during my au pair year. Specially stimulate reading and creativity. Studying is very important to me. I'm usually very calm. However, I'm not a pushover. I know how to be firm when I see I need to, but always in a very respectful way. In any kind of relationships, respect is as important as love and I believe the only way to teach children about it is by showing that you love and respect them and the others. It is very important to be a good role model, as kids learn from everything we say and do. I think the family is the base of life, as I always had a good support from my family and a lovely childhood, I want to transmit this to the children that I will take care of. Also, in order to broaden my knowledge as a caregiver, I have recently taken a course on Childcare and First Aid trainings. I am looking for a family that will take me as a new member, as a person that they always can count on and that will take care of their children with love and respect, as a big sister. However, I know that you may need some privacy and time for yourselves, as I may need for myself. I comprehend and respect that.
