Dear Family,
My name is Renae . I am twenty-four years old. I grew up in Perkasie, Pennsylvania, a smaller town an hour north of Philadelphia. I studied at Rutgers University in New Jersey. My major was French and Psychology, and I am interested in languages and cultures. My hobbies include arts and crafts, singing, playing the piano, juggling, badminton, volleyball, drawing, making small films, painting, reading, knitting, biking, swimming, hiking and dance.
I have two sisters, Natalie (21), Stacie (26) and a brother David (20). I used to help take care of the younger two when they couldn't look after themselves yet. My father Todd (50) is a supervisor at Merck and Kristi (53) is a dietitian at the nearby hospital and a piano/flute instructor at home. She was my piano teacher as well. I spend a good amount of time with them when I am home. Even when everyone is busy and working, we eat dinner together every evening, and go on little trips and vacations together every summer. We don't have pets anymore, but we used to have hamsters, a rabbit and some cats.
This summer I was the Au Pair for a family of two girls and a boy living in Montauk, NY. It was a wonderful experience but now my younger sister is getting married and I have to return home in September. From July 2007-2008 I was an English teacher in S. Korea. I taught classes of kindergarten and first grade students at L.C.I. Kids Club, a private school in the city of Seoul, S. Korea. In the U.S., I was a caretaker for three girls, doing the cooking, some light cleaning for the house and creating activities for them. I was also a camp counselor for groups of up to 12 girls around the ages 10-13. I love children, and I love helping them learn and have fun. During college I volunteered at the nearby elementary school to form an after-school french club for fifth grade students. I have decided to be an Au Pair because I would like to continue to build experience with children and different cultures, whether it is simply a new and different family dynamic in another part of the country, or a family abroad. I would like to meet new friends and get to know a new place. I am currently applying for Teach for America, and if I am accepted the training will begin in June 2009. Until then, I would like to continue to work as an Au Pair or in an educational field. My older sister will be working in Taiwan this year, and it would be great if I could be closer to her, while also experiencing a different culture in Asia. However, I am also open to a position in the United States which would allow me to be closer to my family in Pennsylvania. I hope that you will consider letting me become a part of your family, if only for a few months. Thank you for your consideration.
Kindest Regards
Renae |
