| Family's Message to Au Pairs and Nannies |
| Dear Au Pair, We are a family of six (seven, if you count our little fluffy dog "Muzzy") with four boys (6, 4, 2, and 3 months). They are typical boys! Luckily they also enjoy arts and crafts and being read to, which makes the house a little quieter now and then. With their high level of energy it is not always easy to instill good manners, but my husband and I believe that that is essential nevertheless. We try to bring up our boys to be polite, disciplined and kind. Besides giving them a lot of attention and love in the home, we believe that a Christian faith is ultimately the most important thing we can give them. Culturally, we are a mixed household. I myself grew up in Germany (Hamburg) and Copenhagen and came to the US to attend Harvard University twelve years ago (I received my PhD in history in '02). My husband is American and has lived all over the country. Our "default language" at home is English, because my husband doesn't know any German. However, I speak mostly German with my children in the hope that they will become fluent in that language as well. We are currently living in Copenhagen, Denmark, but will be moving back to the United States at the end of the year (either to Florida or Boston or both). I am at home with the children but need a nanny to "divide and conquer." I like keeping my children active both indoors and outdoors. They love playing outside in the yard, visiting the aquarium and the zoo, and going on daytrips to a farm or the woods. We have a lot of fun together! You would help with tidying up the toys, feeding the children, keeping the children’s rooms organized and doing the children’s laundry. I would also like you to help with grocery shopping and cooking. Your schedule would vary, depending on whether it’s a school day or not.
