Au Pair's Message to Families

I want to work as an au pair in Spain because I would like to improve my Spanish language skills, work with kids, and connect with my Spanish roots. As the oldest of four children, responsibility for others was a role that I inherited. Although I didn’t realize it growing up, I was always a role model for my siblings. After I graduated from high school and left home to study at an ivy league university, my brothers followed in my footsteps. I continued to be a “big brother” in college, taking on many leadership positions. I served as a peer counselor to new students and a team leader for community service trips to homeless shelters. Taking care of my younger siblings has shaped who I have become. I am excited about the opportunity to be a role model and an older brother for others by working as an au pair. My grandfather was from San Sebastian, Spain. Although I have visited extended family in Spain in the summers, I have never lived in Spain. I would like to live in Spain to learn more about my heritage. Additionally, I would like to live in Spain to apply my Spanish language skills. I have studied Spanish in high school and for two semesters in college. I will start a new job in July, working in finance in New York. For this reason, I can only au pair until July.
