Au Pair's Message to Families
I am a French woman, 30, and I’m looking for a job as a nanny in your family during this coming summer (July-August 08) I am an English and French tutor and have been an au pair 7 times in England, Australia and new Zealand!. I am going to try to sum up my childcare experience for you.

I worked in restaurants and hotels for 6 years as a student and then decided to leave for England to brush up my English. Eventually, I stayed three years in there !. Last time I was there, I really enjoyed my stay. This travel allowed me to pass my degree in English and American Literature and also got a degree called “Sciences of Education”. Indeed, I loved working with children and teenagers (so I think myself quite lucky to have found the things I want to do in life), that is taking care of children, trying to make them happy and teaching them, in a funny way, a foreign language.

I started my childcare experience when I was 18 as an au pair but been doing regular baby-sittings since I am 16! Last time I went to England I met some wonderful people who gave me a chance (host family) and I managed to take over a French classes’ business called Linguafun in which I tried to teach French in a funny way to children aged from 4 to 12. (cf linguafun add, kid’s drawings, parent’s letters and photos attached). I was teaching them French with dances, songs, flashcards, puppets …to try to get them involved while enjoying themselves. It happened to be quite a good thing and 5 classes opened the year after. I really enjoyed it. Being with children has always been a special moment in which we both share and play ?

I also worked as a French tutor for adults in several adult education centres in Camberley, Staines, Fleet (uk) and gave numerous one-to-one tuitions through different language agencies. It was a great experience and I met some wonderful persons (cf student’s representations of the French class attached)

When I came back to France, I started to open a new class, this time, to teach English in the same way, that is an interactive and funny approach. Thanks to my teaching experience and my degrees I found a job as a replacement teacher in one of the best college in France “lycée de La Salle” in Alès (South of France) ,a private school of 120 teachers, so working for l’Education Nationale?. It’s been one of the best times in my life, thanks to the trust (despite my young age) of a few brilliant persons I integrated the school teaching English and French to some great children and teenagers with learning difficulties. I think children are wonderful, even the toughest ones usually are the ones you keep the best memories, that’s why I chose to teach in professional schools (“short version to get a job”). I keep some wonderful memories from these pupils. Apparently, they were quite happy about my work too (cf. reference letter).

Now, I would love to move from my small but lovely village in south of France and discover new cultures, that’s why I’m looking for an au pair job , if possible part -time so that I can still teach French in one to one tuition or even better teach your little ones! I would prefer a job childcare oriented more than cleaning .

. I’m not a money person and as long we get on fine I ll be flexible, as friends would do).

Well, I read again my letter and it sounds a bit too serious!

I’m also an easy-going person, big sister of three children, my sister, Claire is 26 and just got her baby Matteo (see photos of the little angel) and my brother ,Juju, who is 18 and full of life. I m lucky , I have 2 wonderful parents, divorced but with whom I have good relations, a step dad who is a wonderful cook and two “half brothers” who are just great!

I love painting, cooking, arts and craft, nature, reading English papers, theatre (started this year, lots of giggles on Wednesdays). I have some great friends with whom we love picking up chestnuts and going in the woods, having good meals with a glass of wine and generally are here for me and me too! You’ll tell me : why leaving this exciting life then?

Well, I m also very independent and love travelling, I’ve always travelled alone and I m just fond of it! It’s just great to change a bit and challenge oneself to start over one’s life with different people, discovering new landscapes and different ways of thinking.5 I ve lived for three months in Australia last year and three months in a maori family in nz , it was fantastic!

So I try to be as open-minded as possible as I m convinced it’s the people you meet that makes you who you are! (and not what you eat, ?). I like having fun but I m also responsible and know flexibility is the key of success in order to make a relation work.

I think this letter should be enough for a first mail; don’t you? (?( I hope it will help you to decide if I m the kind of person you’re looking for your little ones. Hope to hear from you soon

Meanwhile, take care

Family Testimonial...
We have used the Great Aupair website for the past two years and found two fantastic girls who stayed with us for 12 months and who really became part of our family, as we did theirs. The information available through the site far exceeds the often limited information available from local aupair agencies and because contact is not restricted it can make choosing the right aupair far easier. Making decisions about childcare can be extremely difficult, and when getting acquainted through the Internet one has to be cautious, however, we found that because of the way the site works we had lots of contact before our aupairs arrived, obtaining references was quick and easy and our son got to know them really well through regular phone calls. Settling in was easy for us all. We regularly recommend Great Aupair to our friends.
