| My name is Aline, I am 19 years old, it seems young but certainly I am ready to start a new chapter of my life. I come from Brasil, the largest and most populous country in South America, which currently presents great opportunities for investment. It is rich in local folklore, it is the land of Carnaval, a celebration combining parades, pageantry and folk drama, that is usually held in Catholic countries during the weeks before Lent. Carnaval is based on Samba, what makes Brazilian music a national treasure, it comes in many sounds and shapes. And no country in the world plays soccer like Brasil, no country has the tradition and glory that has been won by Brazilian teams. I am really proud of being a Brazilian girl, my country has a lot to offer. I was born in Blumenau. My hometown has succeeded in promoting itself as the "capital" of German in Santa Catarina. Blumenau always had an Italian minority, but it was mainly settled by Germany. Superficially at least, Blumenau certainly looks, if not feels, German. The streets are sparkling clean and most buildings are in German architectural styles. Year after year, we have a party called Oktoberfest, it is the second most important beer festival in the world, it is originally from Munich. Held since 1984, over three weeks in October, it concentrates vast quantities of beer and German food, other attractions are the local and visiting German bands and German folk-dance troupes. Living in Blumenau is really nice, the city is very organized in many ways. We are 5 at home: me, my parents, my 22 years old sister and my grandmother. For a Brazilian, family means parents, children, cousins, aunts, uncles, spouses, husbands and the generation of the family, I love having them around me, but lately it has not being easy to get them together. Last year I worked in a family business, a Flower Shop with my uncles. I really loved my job, because since I was 10 years old, I helped them to work during the most important days, like mother’s day. So I start to enjoy flowers, and certainly it can be a therapeutic job. I liked my working place because I used to deal with a lot of different people everyday. Basically I was responsible for sales at the shop. I finished my last year of high school and after that I took an Interior Design non credit course to help me to choose a course at University. So I think I’ll be an Architect. It is important to follow a career, but right now it is time to take a break from my education and explore what I am capable of doing. My sister and my cousins were Au Pairs years ago, and this makes me feel more comfortable to become one as well. They really learned and had big opportunities because of the Au Pair program. I think it is important to live abroad at my age and I intend to go on learning. I think spending twelve months in America will give me the opportunity to meet new people, to know more about the American style of living and hopefully find the best way to achieve my goals. I opted for Au Pair program because it is a wonderful chance to combine my experience and love for children with a new life changing experience for myself. Taking care of children is a good way to help another person grow, as well as a chance to learn new things about myself along the way. My experience with kids started in a children care center in my neighborhood. I spent one month taking care of little babies and children from 2 to 6 years old. They are lovely and funny. I used to help them with breakfast, having lunch and dinner. Also during activities in class, like: painting, cutting pictures, singing, dancing and playing games. I told them stories and I put them to sleep. After all this great experience I know that I am able to be an au pair, because I noticed the different ways of educating a child. I am up to this challenge, I want to make their life as much fun as possible and enjoy time we will spend together. |
