Professionally caring for others has been my vocation for over twenty years, with roles such as nursing assistant, care worker, support worker, personal trainer, teacher’s assistant, senior carer & residential social worker. During this time I have offered personal centred care to people aged from birth to palliative care, on a long term & short term basis. People with physical & learning disabilities. At home, in nursing homes, within general, medical, Neurological, Infectious Diseases, Chest heart & Stroke Rehabilitation. Intensive care, dual diagnosis learning difficulty & mental health wards. During my two years studying at Stevenson College, Edinburgh from 1992-1994. I spent my time was split between learning the theory of how to be an effective carer & the practical caring skills (on placement). Scotvec modules on subjects such as Supporting the Elderly in the community, the care of people with dementia, enabling others to cope with loss, first aid, food hygiene & budgeting & finance for care. All of which have been invaluable during my career. Since then I have taken many courses. Some vocational, but mainly for pleasure.
My duties when working as a home carer would be primarily be making an assessment of risk & needs. Assisting clients with Food Preparation, Prompting medication. housework, hoovering, dishes, laundry, cooking, pet care. Gardening house painting & light building repair work. Personal care, wet shaving men, catheter/bladders bowel management.
Whilst working within the nursing homes, my duties are writing daily updates in care plans & assisting residents with daily life. Helping them to rise, dress, eat breakfast, socialise, personal care, bathing or taking showers & facilitating any activities within and outwith the home..
I consider I am a confident, energetic, hard working individual & an excellent communicator, who can show initiative when necessary. Kind, Respectful, has empathy and unconditional positive regard for all & an asset to any company. Capable of working alone or within a team & enjoying any new challenges thrown at me.
