| We searched for a few months before hiring Angela Elliot as our nanny in the middle of May 2007. We felt her profile and resume were excellent, and we were impressed by her personality when she came to interview with us. However, after Angela lived with us for a few weeks, it was quite evident that her skills did not match her resume. She didn't seem to interact smoothly with my children, nor was she able to complete simple errands and household tasks with efficiency. I had a few discussions with Angela, hoping to improve the situation, as we wanted to make this work.
After Angela had been with us for about six weeks, my family went away for the day leaving her with the day off. When we returned, we were shocked to find that Angela had packed up and left without notice, leaving only a short note behind. Our former nanny, who we had an excellent experience with and had trained Angela for a few weeks when she first arrived, tried to contact her numerous times. Angela refused to respond.
For someone who considers herself a "professional nanny," I felt the situation was irreresponsible. Not only had she failed to mention to me that the situation was not working out from her perspective, she left us without notice or even a face to face conversation! I want to warn other families that before hiring Angela, take a close look at her resume in comparison to her actual skills. Also, as I am now left in a bind to find a new nanny, know that she has walked out before and is capable of doing the same thing again. |
