Beware Families, I received a direct email from this "girl", sounded great, but I was suspicious that she had no au pair profile on the site. I checked the complaints, and it was almost word-for-word match to other complaints from girls in Cameroon. See below.......... Dear Family, After visiting your profile on the site, I think it has a good match with my au pairing expectations and I believe I can make an ideal au pair for your home. I am a 21 years old British girl born on the 8th of April 1986 in Cambridge UK. I am the eldest in a family of three I have a junior brother Joe and a kid sister Sherry and a father though my mother is of late. We are a small noble and happy family. I used to take care of my junior ones and that is why I developed interest in child care. After my high school I studied child care training and I graduated with a diploma in this field after nine months of studies. I understand and speak both English and French fluently

I enjoy looking after children, working and playing with them. I also find child caring as a very rewarding experience though challenging at times. I am responsible mature hard working and willing to work with children of all ages.

I have been working as au pair now for two years. During this period I have worked with Mrs. Rice in Canada for six months Rolly 6 months old. I have also worked with Mr. Dalen in London for one year taking care of his two lovely angels 3 years old Tina and 1 year old Mabel and now in Africa Cameroon where I worked with The Mandy’s a family from Austria taking care of two energetic Guys Mark and Kelly. I am willing to provide you with their references if you so desire My primordial job description with all my previous families consisted of making breakfast for the kids, getting them ready for school, driving them to and from school, prepare meals and snacks for them, do laundry and tidy up their rooms, keep my living quarters clean and tidy, help the kids out in their assignments and create fun activities for them in times of relaxation. I also have various fun games that I teach them. If I fit your ideal au pair, then I will be willing to work in like manner and up to 45 hours per week as your family so desires. In addition to the above, because of my experience, I can provide basic first aid and survival support even with handicapped kids and kids with allergies

It so happens that my favorite pastimes (Hobbies) of cycling, swimming for which I have a champion history, hiking, cookery, creative writing, board games and music are activities that can engage the imagination and attention of kids . I am a soft spoken and a kind girl. I do not smack children but teach them from the first day the importance of doing what is right. I also believe in the power of positive thinking and I know that every body deserves a second chance. Do wish that you find me not just like an au pair but a senior sister to the kids because I intend to raise them just like my own kids I can proudly say my past experiences as an au pair were particularly fulfilling both to the families and to me and it is for that reason that I look forward with childlike enthusiasm to au pairing with your family. Yours in expectation Maria

I had the identical email from the same name, Maria Banks (I can't believe they don't even bother changing the name.) We had several weeks of correspondence, including phone calls and phone calls to her "referees" in London and Cameroon (supposedly an Austrian family). I have just been relieved of $2000 after stupidly being convinced to send money to a travel agency for her air fare. My advice would be this: A genuine nanny will have PLANNED AND SAVED for the trip. Anyone who hasn't and who asks for money will in the best case be disorganised and irresponsible and in the worst case (as we found out with "Maria Banks") will be part of an elaborate international scam. Good luck!

Here is another name for you: Andrea Thomms, or Andrea Thomas. Claims she is Irish, living in Cameroon, VERY disjointed email (looks like a copy and paste from other profiles), does NOT sound like a native English speaker, and has no locator on Great Au Pair.
