| MichBrumb--BEWARE!!! Beware of anyone with the e-mail address of michbrumb or something similar. There is a supposed family out there that is trying to scam you, big time! The e-mail address varied, sometimes it was a US e-mail address, then a UK onne. The first e-mail I received from this man said that he and his wife were an American family with a little girl that needed a nanny and that they would pay $500/week. Sounds great, right? Well, he would never tell me where he lived (city, state) and also responsed to my e-mails with more questions and no answers to my own questions. I placed my own zip under his because a zip for the family is required, but unfortunately, he never told me where he was located. In the third e-mail, there were so many red flags, I knew that it had to be a scam. He said that his son was in college in Africa and needed some money. He also said that his wife and him were out of the country and could not get this money to his son. He wanted me to open a WellsFargo account, after which he would send me a $3,000 check and then something about he wanted me to wire the money to his son. How outrageous is that?! In the last e-mail, he also said that they were ready for me to move in, and he had absolutely no knowledge about me, other than my name and e-mail address. I never sent him a resume or references or even a phone number, and I am definitely not going to do so now. So, please be careful everyone out there! Domestic & foreign nannies/au pairs alike, these scam artists are out there & they want to take advantage of you. Don't let them! If someone is refusing to answer your questions and is not being generous to give you as much information as you request, there is probably a reason, that reason being that they are not as they say they are. Always do background checks (yes, even on families that seem really great), check references, and trust your gut! Initally I thought this guy was offering me a great job, but by the second e-mail and still not knowing where the job was located (city, state), I knew something was up! The scam artists are smart (this guy, not so much), but you ladies (and gentlemen) out there looking for a nanny/au pair position are smarter! It is unfortunate that such negativity has to exist even on a web site such as this, where families and nannies are trying to come together for the betterment of everyone. Unfortunately, evil exists eveywhere. Point blank, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Take care & good luck, but use your brains! |
