Complaint   >> Posted: Dec 14 '05 by Jessica in New York, United States
Marwan contacted me about a nanny position with his family. I responded that I was interested, and then requested more information on his family. After a week of not hearing from him, I assumed he changed his mind. He suddenly wrote and asked if I was still looking, and I was, but I said would like to know more about his family still, but he could also call me if that was more convienent.

I was a little surprised at what he wrote back. His profile states that he needs a nanny 35-40 per week, but his actual hours were completely different! He needed someone from 6am-7pm, 5 days a week, as well as occasional overnights and weekends. He had no idea what a nanny did when his children were in school, but suggested I could help with heavy housekeeping and all the errands, and this was for under $200 a week. I asked if he had a nanny previously and he stated he had one at the time that wasn't working out. I emailed that I was really having second thoughts about meeting them for an interview as his profile and his actual needs were so different and he needed so many hours. Marwan (without asking me) decided to call that evening at 11pm and when I didn't answer (being asleep) he hung up and called 6 more times and then left continual messages about calling him right away to discuss the position and meet his family.

The next morning after listening to the messages, I called the number on my caller id to ask him what in the world was going on, and his daughter answered and rudely told me she had no idea her father was looking for a nanny for them, as she is 16 and cares for the kids, and not to call back. I was completely confused, and then received an email from him saying that he was at work and to call him there, not at their home, as the other nanny was there and didn't know he was looking for someone to replace her.

I emailed him and told him I had talked to his daughter and what she had said, as well as asking him not to contact me again as I was no longer interested in becoming his family's nanny. He was livid and called 3 more times before I blocked his numbers, and then wrote an email stating I was "in the nanny business for the money" and "it wouldn't hurt to help out a single dad without making him go broke." I have never contacted him again.

I have no idea what was really going on, but several friends of mine have also been in contact with him and informed me that in over a year and a half, his profile has never changed, and his children are the exact same age as they were in 2004 in his profile. His daughter seemed completely confused when I explained I was interviewing for a nanny position with them. I would warn other nannies to stay away as nothing from this man adds up.
