I'm living with my sisters so we're sharing the household chores but i can assure that i can do any household chores coz I've been an au pair before in The Netherlands. My host family lives in a beautiful village named De Rijp. It’s a 30mins drive to Purmerend and 1 hour drive to Asmterdam, both by bus. Both my host parents work in the City. My host father, Dirk, is a Government employee who works 5 days a week, Maaike , is a kindergarten teacher and she works 3 days a week. They have 4 children named Matthijs, 9yrs old, Jasmijn, 8yrs old, Pepijn, 5yrs old and Silvijn, 1 ½ yrs old. The eldest three go to school everyday so only the baby stays with me. The usual thing that I do is waking them up every morning, assist them with their breakfast. After that, I take them to school. Then I will give Silvijn’s fruit and bring him to bed. I clean the house while the baby is still asleep otherwise I can’t watch him well coz I’m busy. I will wake Silvijn up before noon coz we will fetch his brothers and sister to school. Sometimes some of their friends play in the house. That’s fine with me coz it’s also one way for them to relax after class. Before cooking, I will give Silvijn’s potje. If he’s already finished Maaike or I just have to put him to bed after we eat. I only cook every Monday and Thursday. Sometimes, Maaike also ask me to cook especially if she can’t make it at home on time.
On weekends, either I stay in the house or go to my friends’ house. Sometimes, I go to the City to window shop or to clear my mind especially if I’m homesick. That’s one of the things that I do when I’m bored or a little bit homesick.
My favorite past time are watching TV, reading historical romance books and my favorite authors are Judith Mcnaught, Jude Deveraux, Johanna Lindsey. I also like to browse or surf the internet. Through this, I could picture out the different places that were described in books. I always wonder what it’s like to live in that place. I also like to sing but I guess the song doesn’t like me. Nah, just kidding. My voice is not that good but not that bad also.
I like pets. I have 3 dog named Shrek, Beauty and Puppy and also a cat named Smitty. Our family loves to take care of pets. I miss Shrek so much. Among them all, shrek is the one I love most. I’m always curious about the norms and cultures of other countries that’s why I decided to take this opportunity to work and at the same time travel.
