Au Pair's Message to Families

Dear Family! My name is Graziela, I'm Brazilian, 27 years-old. I'm an Au Pair in Washington DC, USA since September, 2007 and got good references from my family. I take care of two boys, ages 2 and 4 years-old. My agency is Au Pair in America. I'm looking for a family in NY, NJ or DC. I was born in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in the South of Brazil. I am graduated as a Graphic Designer and I have worked in many places including the University where I studied. There, I worked as a graphic designer creating logotypes, folders, sites among other materials. I used to work part time at the university and during the morning I gave classes of art for children between 02 and 06 years old. In my activities as an art teacher, I also helped the children at the lunch time, took them to the bathroom and other daily activities, we had a great time together. It was an awesome experience to me. My Dad is retired and my Mom is a housewife, they live in a farm where they have fish, chicken, dogs and ducks. I don’t live with them because the farm is too far from the university where I studied and from my work. Since I started to study I began to live with other students in an apartment close to the university. I have shared with my mates the house cleaning, the dish washing, the cooking and the cloth washing. I have a 38 years old sister and a 33 years old brother, both are married and have children. My brother is a bus driver and has a six-year-old daughter. My sister is a teacher and has a five-year-old daughter and now she is pregnant again expecting another baby girl – Sofia. My relationship with my family is excellent, we are a very happy family and try to support each other all the time. Every Sunday we have lunch together at my father’s farm. When we are together I have great fun with my nieces who are adorable. They are the sun of our lives. I have the weekends to teach new songs and play with them, they love to sing and to play with the dolls as well. I love to make costumes for them to play and act different characters. My sister has also taught me great secrets for me to have a good relationship with the children, because she is teacher for children between 02 and 06 years in the kindergarten. All this experience gave me the idea of being an Au Pair. This way I could work with children, which I like too much and together improve my English for my future in work. I have great plans for my English in my profession as a graphic designer. English is very, very important! With this idea, I would like to have an English course while in the United States and after having improved my English maybe, if possible, have a design course to bring new ideas for my work back in Brazil. I am a kind and patient person and I like to solve my problems having good talks, not making a big deal when problems show up in life. When I was a little girl I was known as the one who was always ready to help others to solve the fights and the bad situations, so normal among teenagers at school. I am a nonsmoker but I don’t mind if people smoke around me. I have many friends and we meet always when possible. When we go out, we go to the movies, theaters and museums. I love arts, drawing and sewing. I love sports and swimming I like best. I don’t have problems with food or any spices. I have got a driver’s license for cars and motorcycles, for 09 years. Being in USA as an Au Pair, is a great opportunity to exchange cultures, because I love to show a little of the Brazilian culture through pictures, postcards, songs and food recepies. I am a catholic but I don’t have problems with other religions and beliefs. It also will be so nice to be part of an American Family and take care of the children as an Au Pair.
