| Our 10 year old son Dylan is an only child. He is very kind, sensitive, loving, and active. He loves to go for hikes, go to the beach, play sports, and see his friends. He is a good student in school and works hard at it. He is also a gifted child with special needs. He taught himself how to read at 3 years of age and can now easily perform math equations above his age level. But he has had some language/social delays that he continues to work on.
All that said, he thrives on individual attention and lots of praise, so we would expect our new nanny (like our live-in nannys/au pairs before) to encourage his language, social interactions, and help with homework. For example, he often needs some gentle encouragement to play with other kids, needs extra time and patience when he communicates his ideas/thoughts, and needs someone to practice his vocabulary homework. So it’s not only important that you are outgoing and comfortable around kids, but also that you have a strong initiative to help. We also think it's key that you give him the chance to say and do things independently.
About us, we are both financial professionals in our early 40's, and we enjoy a wide variety of activities. Ron is also a professional wine educator. Most of all, we enjoy our son, Dylan, who is truly a great kid. |
