Au Pair's Message to Families

Dear host family, My name is Lorena and I am 23 years old, graduated in Journalism. I lived with my parents and my younger sister in Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil, where I was also born. Belo Horizonte is a city in the southeast of Brazil, and is 400 Km far from Rio de Janeiro. I like to study, to read and to write. I love music of all kind: samba, rock, brazillian folk, bossa nova, electronic. I am very communicative, happy, cheerful and very playful. I love to take care of children, and one of the reasons for that is the fact that I am very playful, and that makes me have fun with them. I create different kinds of games. Besides that, children also respect me a lot, because I’m very responsible, and I know how to show them when is the time for fun, and when is time to be serious. The children that I took care, in Brazil, as baby-sitter loved me. I played, taught and learned with them. It was as if they were part of my family, and they ended up being really as my siblings or my children. I helped them with schoolwork, gave bath, went out with them for walks, played with dolls, cars, cards, and many other games. I was really committed to them. I came to USA to improve my english and study, I want to be able to speak English fluently, I want to study, to get to know new cultures, and to grow up profissionally and as a person. I chose to be an au pair for the fact that I love children and that they also like me, and I believe that, with that experience, and especially due the fact that I’ll be looking out for kids, my personal growth will be very important, because in the future I also want to be mother. Now, I`ve been for one month and a half, in Swathmore, PA, and I love this city. I take care 3 children, but old children. They are 12, 14 and 16. And I want to change the family because I work 12 hours per day and I have to make dinner all days, and big meals, and It would be so hard for me. I like very much to be au pair, I like my children that I take care, but I have a lot of works adon`t care about this. The children love me, and I also love them, but it is so dificult for me to work 12 hours per day... I think that, as an au pair, I am able to get to know a different culture, to learn many new things, to gain experience, and also to gain knowledge and to learn more about responsibility. I’ve already been in the United States once, when I was 15 years old and I spent my school vacations in Walt Disney World, and I would like to get to know a little bit more about the country, and now I`ve been only one month and a half . From my perception when I was younger and now is that, I like the country a lot, the people, the education standards, and the whole atmosphere. After one year, I will improve my curriculum. Besides speaking english fluently, I also intend to attend other courses in the Communication area, in the city that I’ll live in, and when I return to Brazil, I will have a wider knowledge in my profession.
