| Dear Host Family,
As you know, my name is Thais and I am a 26 year old Brazilian girl who has a passion for children (and dogs!) and is currently an au pair in San Francisco. My term ends in November, and I would like to stay in the area to continue my studies here.
It's quite hard to describe myself, but I'd dare to say that I'm fun, trustworthy, reliable, experienced, outgoing, and loving -- in my opinion, the main characteristics to handle with kids. My English is fluent, though I am still studying to improve it.
I have been taking care of two energetic -and lovely- children since November 2007. The girl is 2 and the boy is 4 years old. We have so much fun together! We have several art projects home, we go to parks, try to make new friends (I taught him how to introduce himself to other children), we stretch, play horse back ride, and so on. I like to prepare music, activities, stories, and share these things with them.
I have been taking care of children since I was a teenager, when my youngest sister was born. My mother worked a lot, so much of the day to day care fell to me. From there I moved on to take care of children of some friends of my mother (the moms asked me to help with the kids when they have to go out). When I was 17 I led a youth bible study at my church in Brazil: The Assembly of God (references are available from this church). I stayed with this youth group until I left for the United States last year. I am enrolled in business administration program at the Federal University of Santa Catarina - and I have one semester left to finish the corse and get my bachelor degree. I decided last year to come to the United States to study English for two years, and was very happy to learn that I could come here and continue working with children.
In my free time in Brazil I liked to read some books, play my clarinet, play with my dog, but the most special moments for me is when I am with my students. Being an au pair has been a unique and very rewarding experience in my life. I hope to serve one more year (or two under the right conditions), and would prefer to stay in the Bay Area. If you think I may be a good match for your family, I would love to hear from you!
Thank you for looking at my profile,
