Au Pair's Message to Families

Dear Future Host Family, My name’s Caroline, but I liked to be called Carol. I’m 27 years old and I finished University of Pedagogy in 2007. I’m living in USA since last january and I'm avaiable to start work and live in since now. I'm greatly anticipating my upcoming stay with you and thought you would appreciate knowing a little more about me. First of all, Why I chose to be Au Pair in the US? I always had the itching of living abroad for a time, learning a new and different culture. I stay out of my home country twice, in 1996 in USA and in 1999 in Japan, and both times I had the good feeling of being abroad, not as only as turist, but also participating of those cities life. So, when I discovered this program, I thouth: It’s Perfect! Through this program, besides realizing my dream, I’ll not be far from the education area and I’ll have the chance to improve my English. Taking care of kids is something I’m doing since I was a teennager. In my summer’s vacation, I used to watch my litlle cousins and, I really enjoyed. Besides of watching my litlle cousins, In my spare time I also taking care of my neighbours’ kids. When I was at the University I was also an Intern Worker (As a Teacher Assistant in Children Education) for a period of 2 years at a Childcare School, named “The World’s Child”, which is a wonderful school, and I have learned much that I know about childcare in it. During the period that I was there I was responsible for childrem of different ages and, together, we had many activities. It was much enjoyable! At the end of University, I worked as an Intern Teacher in the 4th grade of Elementary School. At this time of graduation, I worked as an Intern Teacher of the classroom. And I was the one who made the Planning and Execution of Pedagogic Project. It was a very interesting year, because I had the experience of working with children much older them I was used to. I really liked a lot, they have interesting and honest opinion about dificulties and solutions for the “World” that we live in. I lived with my parents, grandmother, a cousin and also two cats in Brazil. I decided to come here for improve and learn a better english and also because live abroad was a dream for me. When I come back to Brazil I wanna teach english, so I think every moment here is important to learn. I`m so happy because this dream is coming true. My family and I miss each other a lot, but as I told you, this is my dream and even knowing that is hard to be away my parents are really happy and proud about me now and they give me strenght to do whatever I need to do. In my free time I love to participate of cultural events and other local interests’ of city and Also I like to stay home and to read, to watch movies and keeping touch with my family by internet. I really think the Au Pair’s work is very important for the formation of these kids.
