| Dear families, I am an American currently finishing my graduate degree, and I am looking for a live-in Au Pair position so I can become a part of your wonderful family and experience living in Europe before I begin the next stages of my life. Ideally I'd like a position where I could start in August (or maybe September) 2008, and work for a few months. NOTE: right now I am NOT looking to work for a whole year. If I like your family but you have stated that you are interested in having an Au Pair for a year or more, I may accept your message in the hopes that you are flexible, and we could work out the timing among ourselves.
I am a native English speaker; I also speak German (I used to be nearly fluent, but I'm a little out of practice), and am learning Italian. I would love opportunities to practice my skills in either of those languages! I am also trying to learn a bit of Cantonese in my spare time. I hold degrees in architecture and historic preservation, and have also taken courses in psychology and child development. I have been babysitting since the age of 12, and have taken care of many different kinds of families, including 2-month-old twins and a family with 6 children. I stayed with some of these families for many years and the relationships we formed were very rewarding. At my college, I volunteered as a classroom assistant for the preschool, and worked with their class of 2 to 3-year-olds, which was also a great experience.
My favorite pastimes are art, photography, crafts, design, reading, visiting historic sites, traveling, learning languages, acting, playing instruments, singing, cooking, knitting, and spending time outside. I am not particularly involved in sports, but I do enjoy bike riding, hiking, swimming, and running around and playing games with kids! I am also a great homework helper, since I have tutored students of various ages in math, reading, and foreign language. I only know how to drive an automatic transmission car at the moment, but I would be interested in learning how to drive a manual.
I'm a fun person who has a big imagination, and I'm open to trying new things. I'm very positive, practical, patient, responsible, and easy to get along with. I can't wait to hear more about your family and hopefully start a wonderful relationship with you and your children!
Sincerely, mit freundlichen Grüssen, e cordialmente, Valerie
P.S. My salary is negotiable. |
