Au Pair/Nanny job description

We are currently looking for someone who can move-in in Fall 2008 and stay through the school year, longer if desired. We are a busy family looking for a caring, flexible & disciplined person interested in living in her own second floor apartment (living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom) in the back of our home while helping to care for our 6 1/2 year old and helping to keep house. About 30 hours a week of childcare, in the morning from 7-9am and in the afternoons Mon-Thurs between 3 -7:30pm and some weekend day or evening hours (flexible).

Family's Message to Au Pairs and Nannies

Dear Au Pair, We are a fun family looking for a kind, flexible and high-energy person to pitch in and help things run more smoothly. Most hours are extremely flexible, usually for an hour and a half every morning (while I drive the two older girls to a christian school 25 minutes away), Monday-Friday 3-7:30 and some Saturday daytime hours during the school year. Usually you will be watching only the 6 1/2 year old, who needs help with homework & chores. If one of the others is home as well, you would need to supervise practicing of instruments while I take one or two of the others to sports and lessons. Some light meal preparation and bedtime readiness needed for my youngest daughter as she goes to bed by 7pm. You will be expected to make sure the children clean up after themselves and put away their toys, dishes, and clothes. You will also need to keep your living quarters clean. Light housekeeping (vacuuming & dusting of the house & the girl's laundry/ironing) is required in addition to the childcare (about 5-7 hours a week). The girls' laundry can be done while you are watching the girls & they can help. If you need to make more money, we will do our best to find you additional work housekeeping or babysitting for friends. I have a friend with a 1 year old who our last nanny babysat for in the mornings and it worked out quite well. We are a train ride to NYC and Boston and a short car ride to beaches and skiing. You can have vacations and "breaks" for personal travel, or we can keep you busy and show you the sights in CT! We really need someone to arrive in the Fall. I love to spend time with my kids, so I am really looking to form a partnership with you to help the house and children run more smoothly, to everyone's benefit. We are not looking to dump the kids on you all the time, nor are we just looking for a playmate or "big sister" for our kids. They need help with the homework, instruments and guidance, but they love to have fun, play games, hike, ski, play sports and cook. We will pay $200/wk for up to 30 hours a week of babysitting and light housekeeping. Any babysitting more than that will be paid at an hourly rate. Opportunities to work for additional pay can be arranged. Your days would be free to take classes or work elsewhere from 9am - 3pm. We are close to University of Hartford, Trinity College, Tunxis Community College, St. Joseph's College (great schools for teaching and nursing degrees) & Central Conn. State Univ. We would welcome a teacher or nursing student who appreciates the housing and can help us in the afternoons. My girls love babysitters and are spunky and fun to spend time with. They will make you feel very special! Family car can be made available in evenings or when otherwise not in use. Skiing and beaches are less than an hour away and New York City and Boston are all within a couple hours away.
