Au Pair's Message to Families

Hi! My name is Meagan. I completed my last year of high school in June and am looking to be an au pair and hopefully make a long-time friend with a family in a different country and see the world a bit before I go to University. I hope to find a family where I will become a part of the family and a 'big sister' to the kids and not just an employee. I was born and raised in southern Ontario, Canada. I am very interseted in languages and have been learning french since I was 6 and have just received my bilingual certifacte. I have also taken spanish courses in school and have a basic understanding of it. I also love traveling, music (especially classic rock), swimming, walking, bike riding and baking. For the most part I am a very easy-going, organized and friendly person. The two things I want to do most right now are to gain experience with kids and explore a new country and being an au pair is the perfect way to combine those things. I also never got the chance to have younger brothers or sisters since i was the youngest in my family and it is something that I would love to experience. Some experience I have with children includes: babysitting for neighbours and family since I was 12 and from Sept. /07- Jan. /08 i did a co-op placement in a grade 2 class to gain experience since I hope to become a elementary school teacher in the future. While I was with the class, I got activities ready for them, helped them with their work and worked one-on-one with struggling readers. I also just got back from England where I had been working as an au pair for 3 months. I had a great time there and am now looking for a new, warmer place to explore. I volunteered at an elementary school 2 days a week while I was in England aswell, doing mainly the same things as before.
