Au Pair job description

We are a middle-class family with 3 super cute kids ages 4 (girl), 2 (boy), and 7 months (boy). We don't have a big house or a lot of money but here are some perks of living with us: We're fun and young (I'm the mom and I'm 27), We are a 10 minute walk to the train that takes you right into Boston in 15 minutes, My parents have a house on the ocean about 10 minutes away from us and we hang out there all the time, We belong to a REALLY nice health club with pool, tennis, and tons of other cool stuff and we would buy you a membership so you could go with us (and there's childcare there so you'd have 2 hours off there to do as you please). Here's what we would expect of you: Loving, engaging, and responsible care for my three children, keeping our small living area clean, and cooking some meals.

Family's Message to Au Pairs

As of NOW I don't work outside of the home so you are not expected to be on duty from 9am to 5pm or anything like that... Just be around and HELP me so I can be a better mom, wife, and friend. I would like to have the freedom to take a walk or go shopping by myself and know that my children are in your capable hands. I am also hoping that my husband and I can get away sometimes in the evenings to have some much-needed time alone! When you first arrived you might think I will never "let go" and let you do anything because I will want you to feel comfortable and "ease" into life here. But once I get to know you and trust you, I will leave you in charge. I LOVE my kids and I'm not looking to have someone else do all the work raising them - I just need some help! I am very tired! I do not know what the daily schedule will look like - I am flexible with my time so if you want to take a class at a local college here we could arrange that... I am interested in giving a young girl (you) a chance to enrich her life as well as enrich mine by helping me. I have dreams to start a business but I know that I will never get to pursue my ideas unless I have someone I can count on to help me with my most important job: My children and caring for my household. Like I said, we do not have wealth or a big house: The space is small compared to many American homes. We can only provide a small space to call your own - a tiny bedroom with a window but nothing fancy. Concerning how long you can stay - I don't mind if you come for a visit for one month or so and see if it works for you before you commit to a longer period of time. It is very important to me that you like being here. Oh and about the smoking: What you do on your own is your own business - I just don't want someone smoking in my house or coming in my house smelling strongly of smoke... So if you enjoy a cig away from me or the kids that is fine. What is there to learn and do around here? Boston is full of museums and constant activity. It would be easy for you to escape to the coffee shop down the street for some peace and quiet, too... Or take our big happy dog for a walk if you want a companion who won't bother you... But she might ask you to throw her ball :) Some things we are planning on doing this summer include camping, going to the beach and pool, and whatever else looks fun. I like to do stuff but I find it difficult to deal with all 3 kids on my own... so if you are with me we will be a good team!
