Au Pair/Nanny job description

I need help taking care of my very sweet and funny 4year old. Your job would be to take care of her + do lots of fun stuff with her and take care of her room, laundry, and play area. There are some household chores I would like to have done, but like I said, it will be just the three of us :) I work 15-16 days a month.We live on Whidbey Island in a beautiful area. Have our own vegetable garden, and are a completely organic family. Public transportation is very good in this area and gets you around for free. I am looking for a mature Dutch or American nanny who has enough insight to plan ahead. This is a very nice, fun, stressfree position, with just me and Sam.

Family's Message to Au Pairs and Nannies

Dear au-pair, I am raising Sam long the priniples of Rudolph Steiner., and she goes to the Waldorf school 3 days/wk from 8-3. Our home life is not the perfect embodiement of the anthroposophical spirit, but I do emphasize the importance of many of their philosophies. I believe my child learns thru imitation and not negative reinforcements. I do not blieve in punishment and time-outs, but in teaching by setting an example. You need to be open to this sort of "parenting" because I want this style to be continued when you take care of Sam. You need to have the willingness to learn about this,and other unknown skills, if you are not familiar with it. I am looking for someone who would like to be part of our family instead just living in our home to do a job. Someone who is a good communicator. Someone who would, for example, like to read a story to my child also when she is not working ;-) Someone who would be there 100% when with my daughter, instead of being on the phone, computer, or or other non-child care related issues. Someone who will be active rather than passive, and play outside with Sam every work day, rain or shine! Someone who will initiate craft time,projects,outings. One who is family oriented vs. a party girl. We are an extremely happy, go-lucky, funny, a little crazy, creative, adventurous, nature and critter loving, tree-hugging family. My daughter is an extremely happy and well adjusted child. She has had 3 super au-pairs so far and we are sorry our present au-pair is leaving us after 1 yr for a greater adventure. South Whidbey Island is a community focused on "green-living" and we have many alternative life-styles here. This is not the place for a city-person, even though the great cultural aspect of Seattle life is not far away, we are in a rural area with beautiful natural resources allowing great outdoor activities. We have a beautiful temporate climate with 4 seasons and mild winters. Rainfal is minimal here on the Island vs. the mainland. This is the best kept secret place to live in America! Responsibilities will include appr. 35 hrs childcare and a regular amount of household duties, such as vacuuming, laundry, groceries, and cooking for Sam. We have a very structured home environment with very clear expectations. We need someone with good social and communication skills who is good at taking directions and very flexible. My requirements for you are that you are honest, truly caring, loving and nurturing, motivated, willing to learn new skills, not afraid to communicate, have a great sense of humor and a good self-esteem.
