Au Pair's Message to Families

Dear family, I am a German student doing art and film studies in the North of Germany. From August 2007 I’m going to enrol as an exchange student in University for 10 months. During this period I would love to work as an au-pair for an American family as I have always enjoyed working with children and would also like to become familiar with the American culture and customs. I’m the second eldest of five children, so I’ve practically been babysitting most of my life ;) Before I started studying I worked as an au-pair in New Zealand for one year. I enjoyed my time there so much, especially working with the children, that I would love to do something similar in California in addition to my studies. My previous au-pair job in NZ involved looking after the three children (aged 2, 5, and 6) during the day, cooking a meal for them, doing the laundry and light household jobs. In the afternoons I sometimes had up to seven children to look after – but we really had a fun time. The courses I have to attend at Long Beach University would entail approximately 12-15 hours a week. In the remaining time I would like to help and be part of your family. This is my last semester at school though so from May 2008 onward I could work fulltime or travel somewhere else. I’m an outgoing and active 24 year old and enjoy sports, painting and cooking amongst other things. It would be great to hear from you should you be interested.
