| Dear Host Family,
My name is Mareike and I’m 19 years old now. I live with my family, my parents, my brother(16 years old) and my grand-parents in a house in a small town in the state Hesse. My family is very important to me and I really love them a lot. My family also support me with my dream about going to America as an AuPair for one year, which helps me a lot.
Now I would like to tell you something about my experience with children. Since many years I baby-sit my two grand cousins (now 10 and 8 years old). When I started babysitting them they were 5 and 3 years old. I always go to them in the evening. Mostly we eat dinner, then we play some games together and then I bring them to bed after reading a bedtime story with them. Since March this year I also have a Babysitter job with a now two-year-old littl boy. This job takes always place in the afternoon, so I go with him to the playground where we play in the sandbox, we slide and now he also likes to climb a lot, but mostly still with my help. If the wheather is bad, I play with him inside the house, for example with his building blocks or with his puzzles. He’s a really adorable and cute child and I enjoy babysitting him and I love it when he talks with me or when he gives me a goodbye kiss. It’s also a very interesting experience with him because he is raised bilingual, in English and German. He now begins to talk, and sometimes it’s not that easy to understand him because he changes the language, but I’m getting used to it and most of the time I already know what he means. Another experience I had with children was the internship I made in a day care center with preschool in our town. At this time, I took care for children in the age of 2 to 6 years, so I gained experience with different ages and very different kind of children. In this day care center, there are 4 groups with about 15-20 children per group, and I sometimes changed the group where I worked, so I got the chance to become acquainted with quite every child in the day care. I had a lot of fun with the children and I really loved the children there. We often painted and did handicrafts, we played games or made puzzles, or they played and I observed their playing on the playground outside of the day care center. The kids loved to play in the sandbox and they “baked” me hundreds of sand cakes every day. Furthermore we did several excursions. Once a week the children spent a day in the forest, where we collected things like beechnuts or pretty leaves, went hiking and picnicking. The best experience I made there was my birthday because the whole day care sang songs for me, the children gave me selfmade presents, it was very exciting for the children and it was definitely one of my best birthday parties ever. At last, I also have experience with older children and with teaching because since this school year, I help children from the 1st to the 4th grade ( 6 – 10 years old) once a week for 2 hours in their school doing their homework and learning for tests when the school is finished in the afternoon.
There are several reasons, why I want to go to the USA. Going to America has been a dream of mine for many years and I hope I can make it come true. Of course I love to take care of children, and I enjoy spending time with children, playing with them, teaching them or just being around them. I always have a wonderful time with the children I take care of, and you always learn something new when you are around children, so that's why I decided to take part in the AuPair program. I also like to travel and to explore new countries and especially the culture of the countries and it’s very exiting to find out about another way of life and to meet new people.Furthermore I ‘d like to study at a college, while I'm in America, mostly to improve my English-knowledges.
At last I would like to tell you something more about me. I think I’m a caring, warm-hearted and honest person who always tries to be optimistic. I’ve got several hobbies like dancing in a group of a carneval club since I was 3 years old. I also play the flute for many years in an orchestra so I love making and listening to music. Besides my two jobs, I work honorary in the catholic library in our town for 8-9 years now and I really love this job and the people there. In my remaining spare time I like to meet my friends because we always have a nice time together. Furthermore I love reading books in my spare times, and sometimes I do some creative arts for example handicraft work with my father.
In conclusion I would like to thank you for taking your time to read my letter and I hope you enjoyed it. I would be glad to be your AuPair and I’m really looking forward to spend a year in the USA in your family, to take care for your children and to be part and a member of your (and hopefully my future new) family.
Yours Mareike |
