| Dear Aupair,
My husband (British) and I (American) live and work for the US Government as teachers here in Germany. We have 4 children. The 2 younger children attend kindergarten in a our village full-time (until 2 pm).
We have a separate furnished apartment that is completely separate from the house. It is large and contains a bed and other furniture, TV, DVD and CD player, full kitchen, full bathroom, own teleph. line, wireless internet access, etc. In the main house, we have a small workout room with a treadmill, cross trainer, bike, free weights, etc.
We are looking for someone who is fun, energetic, flexible, has initiative and is eager. We are very laid back people, but do have a busy household! Kids are involved in activities such as piano, swimming, karate, soccer, tennis, dance, etc. It would be nice to have someone who can speak English and German (but this is not a must), someone who likes being outside, arts and crafts, and music (my husband used to be a professional musician and plays piano and the guitar - so kids love music and he is teaching them!) is a plus. As we are teachers for Americans, any days we have off from school for holidays, you too, would have off. This includes many 3 day weekends, 2 weeks at Christmas, and a week in April to travel and relax. We really want someone who will be part of the family and help out just as a member of the family.
We have had au pairs for the last 5 years and the hours typically were Monday through Friday 7:30-4:00 pm. However, this is the first year that all the kids will be out of the house for a good portion of the day. This will likely mean very flexible hours for the new au pair. Perhaps helping out with the cleaning, cooking, and day to day stuff that crop up.
Saturday and Sundays are days off. However, there will be about some Saturdays that we will require assistance. My husband and I are both completing our Doctorate degrees and our classes meet on some Friday evenings from 6-9 and some Saturdays from 9-4. However, it is not every weekend.
We would also like to find someone who likes to cook and could prepare some simple dinner meals 3 or 4 times a week as part of her duties. In addition, we would like to include a few hours for cleaning the house (vacuuming, dusting, cleaning fingerprints that are...everywhere, etc.) and to help with the laundry and putting the kids' clothes away. This would be included in the hours required. When we get home from work and the kids' activities I want to be able to enjoy the kids and not have to stress about dinner having to start dinner!
In short, we need an au pair who is VERY flexible and is willing to help out in all aspects of our busy, but fun life!! But most importantly, we want someone to be part of the family. Our children have truly loved out aupairs (who we keep in touch with and continue to have visits from!) and will treat you like a Big Sister.
Our family ofers a unique situations as you would be able to experience 3 cultures - American and British in our home - in addition to living in Germany and being exposed to German culture.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask us. In addition, we can give you contact information for our previous aupairs. We have had four aupairs and have loved the experiences. We look forward to hearing from you and potentially making you part of the family!
*I have not yet had the chance to add recent pictures to the gallery, but there are some from last year of the kids, one of of our house, your apartment, and the area.
