Au Pair's Message to Families

Hi, My name is Shelby, I am currently working in the United Kingdom as an au pair with three children ages 6, 9 and 11. Previous childcare experience includes: working as a teachers assistant in both a kindgarten classroom and a 4/5 classroom, babysitting various families and children from ages 1-13 for 5 years, and, i have younger siblings myself and therefore know how to handle children in many different situations. As well, i volunteered in both a community hospital and retirement home, and therefore learned crucial skills such as understanding, patience and compassion. As well, I worked as a customer service representative in a local department store for three years and learned many valued lessons in responsibilty. Travel experience includes family vacations through Bahamas, St. Maarten and St . Thomas, as well as Miami and many of the United States. I also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and travelled to Guatemala to build homes for those in the area, and travelled to Costa Rica on an exchange program to better my Spanish skills. Overall, I feel I have the ability and experience of travelling alone, despite my young age. English is my native language, however I am conversational in both French and Spanish. I would like to become an au pair to not only gain experience with children before continuing my career in Education, but also to gain a new cultural experience in a foriegn country.
