Au Pair/Nanny job description

We would like you to work for 25 - 35 hours per week, negotiable, doing house work and looking after the children. Our children are generally very well behaved and are not a problem to manage. We do have four children but they are normally out of the house during most of the daytime, both during school term and often in the holidays. If you can, we would like you to prepare some meals for the children, possibly collect them from the nearby school and play with them.

Family's Message to Au Pairs and Nannies

Dear Au Pair, We live in a lovely house in the countryside, near to the large towns of Reading and Newbury. Our house used to be a pub and part of it is quite old. The house has been modernised recently and we have built a new wing on the south side. We have a very good room--quite a big one--for you, with a stereo and a television. You will have Internet access from a computer that you will sometimes have to share with the children -- but that will generally be available when they are out or in bed. There is a bus service from the end of the road (less than 1km) into both Reading and Newbury. There is also (once a week!) a bus into Newbury that stops at our front door. The house is in a quiet spot but you will find excellent resources for young people in Newbury and, especially, Reading. There are good language schools in both Reading and Newbury. If you have a driving licence or if you learn how to drive while you are here, we have a small car that we could make available to you. We would need to be confident that you are a safe driver before we give you the keys and we may be able to help you to learn or improve. This is an excellent area for those who like nature, walking, riding (horses or bicycles). We are also lucky to have a fast train service from Reading into London (25 minutes). As a family, we like to travel. For the moment, we are expecting to travel mainly in Europe and we try to visit our house in the south-west of France several times a year. We would, of course, like you to travel with us, as part of our family. Jonathan works in computer technology, from a home se works four days a week as a marketing consultant. We both have flexible working arrangements and can be available to help when needed. The children are happy and helpful. We and they will be pleased to help you improve your English. We speak proper, standard English that will help you to learn good grammar. It would be helpful if you could already speak some English -- at least enough for basic communication -- before you started with us. Finally, we are an honest and, we believe, reasonable, family.
