| Hello, I'm glad to be writing this letter to you. I hope you like this letter and me. :-) First let me introduce myself. My name is Michelle. I'm 21 years old. My Korean name means 'glorious and prosperous'. But if you have trouble pronouncing my Korean name, please call me Michelle. I'm junior in Hanguk(Korea) University of Foreign Studies and my major is German Interpretation and Translation, minor is Economics. I've been always curious about foreign countries and language. That's why I chose foreign language as my major. Also, I'm learning Japanese by myself.
There are 5 members in my family: parents, sister and brother. My father is self-employed and mother is doing volunteer work for senior citizen. My sister is studying fashion design and little brother is a middle school student. My parents have always emphasized the importance of challenge and experience since I was young. So I joined the Girl Scouts when I was 9 years old. While I was in Girl Scouts, I learned so many thing. Such as responsibility, independence, friendship, skills... It was very instructive experience for me.
My parents have been working since I was young, so I usually took care of my little brother. I gave him a bath, made snacks and played games. And I could naturally learned about children. After I became an university student I got a part-time-job at a kindergarten for 6 months with my friends who is majoring in the Child-care Education. I took care of children's safety, helped them to eat lunch and prepared for class. I'm good at arts. Such as drawing, making puzzles, singing, playing the piano, paper folding... During I worked at there, my abilities were very useful. I'm sure children liked that. I was very happy while I was with children. They gave me energy. And I also used to take care of neighbor's boys once or twice a week for a year. He was 10 years old. He was little urchin, but thanks to this experience, I learned how to handle stubborn children like him. I think what they need in their childhood is love and caring.
I'm interested in the relief work for Third World. When I graduate university, I want to work for international relief organization such like UNICEF. I hope children in Third World can live a happy life. So now I'm doing volunteer work for poor children at UNICEF. All I can do for them is just fund-raing, but I think it's clearly worthy. Apart from that activity, I helped mixed-blood children to learn Korean. Most of their mothers are from Vietnam and China, so I read Korean fairy tales for them, taught them to Korean and traditional games. When occasion comes, I hope I can teach your children to Korean too. I want many people in the world to know more about Korean culture.
After that I've decided to be an au pair girl, I've tried to know more about children and English. I read a lot of books about childcare. Recently I got First Aid certification for children's safety. I think the first step is very important in emergency situations. And I'm studying English much more harder. To improve my conversation skill, I'm going to English talking club every Friday. I feel my skill is getting better. Thanks to friends I met there, I could get some tips for American life and culture. So I think I can adjust myself to a new circumstance well. In addition, this semester, I'm learning English listening and about American culture in the university, because I want to understand English clearly and speak more fluently. Apart from that, I practice driving 5days in a week. I started to drive late, but I'm sure I'm gifted to drive. I promise you to keep safety of your children.
My friend was an au pair girl is Germany last year. She recommend me to participate in au pair program. I heard many good things about au pair life from her. Lovely children, kind and thoughtful host parents, new friends... But I think the most important things in au pair are positive attitude and responsibility. And now I'm trying to be a good au pair girl for lovely host family.
I'm really excited about everything. But I know it's not going that easy. Therefore, I'm preparing and trying to be a perfect au pair girl. I want to be a new member of your host family. Through this program, I hope I can give you and your children a lot of precious memories. Also I want you to be my precious memories in my life. I promise I'll do my best. Thank you for reading this letter. If you have any questions, don't hesitate. Please ting for your reply. :-) Thank you very much.
Sincerely yours, Michelle. |
