| We also have two high school seniors (a boy and a girl) who are nearly 18. The nanny has no responsibilities for the two older siblings – as they manage their schedules, homework, and other needs directly with Mom and Dad. They have their own cars, are responsible for doing their own laundry, etc. However, they are fun and interesting people – we welcome you to get to know them.
We live on a small hill with great views, access to nearby hiking trails, and a backyard with trampoline, hot tub, a hidden tree swing, and big grass play area. All three girls attend school 8:00 - 2:30 pm every day. We would like a nanny who is comfortable picking them up each day, bringing them home, and/or transporting them to local sports practices, play dates, etc. We’ll rely on our nanny to help us prepare for an easy, family dinner. Typically this means engaging the girls to prepare a salad, and sometimes a dessert and taking the meat out of the refrigerator mid-afternoon and setting it aside to marinate. Dad or I will grill it when we get home. We’ll rely on our nanny to help us keep track of items that are running low in the pantry/fridge (add them to the shopping list). The nanny is provided with a credit card to use for gas, household purchases and errands (take the girls to pick out a birthday gift, the occasional run to Yogurt Shack, or picking up grocery items at Safeway). Dad I and make a Costco trip every weekend as well.
We rely on our nanny to help us get the girls organized in the mornings – this includes helping us insure they pick up their sack lunch, backpack, homework, and also insure that they’ve had breakfast, and made their beds (7:00 – 8:15). The nanny will drop them off at school in the mornings (about 3 miles roundtrip). During the time while they are in school, we would like our nanny to spend one hour devoted to the girls laundry, errands, and updating and printing the family schedule on the computer. It allows the nanny to focus on the afternoon activities (like driving and homework) without worrying about the laundry in the dryer.
We will also rely on our nanny to keep the kitchen neat. The afternoon schedule runs 2:30 – 7:30 daily. In the afternoons, the nanny will pickup the two younger girls from school, bring them home, review the schedule with the girls, make a quick snack and get homework started, or get the girls off to sports practices, etc. The 15 year old is driven home each day by her older sister. Each afternoon, help the girls pack their lunches for the next day, and prepare sports bags for practices/games for the next day. The nanny will insure homework and flash cards, reading, etc is complete. We have organized carpools with other families to minimize the driving to/from some sports practices as well.
We have a separate guest house with 2 large bedrooms, marble bath, hardwood floors, full granite kitchen / new stainless appliances, eating area and laundry room. The guest house has wireless internet, and the furnished nanny’s room has a very private setting with a wall of windows that overlook a beautiful wooded ravine. The room is furnished with a new queen bed and linens/towels, huge closet with built in storage, floor to ceiling mirror, desk, large dresser, and TV with DVD player. The smaller bedroom is currently used by our 18 year old daughter. We also provide a car (Lexus SUV). We look forward to a close relationship with our nanny but we respect each others privacy as well.
There will be some occasions where Mom travels for work, but these are usually short trips (2-3 days), and I have several weeks notice. Dad doesn’t typically travel much for work. His parents live a mile away, and can help out in case of unexpected emergencies. (Like a broken pipe, electricity going out, car trouble, etc).
We communicate readily with our nanny – and the girls are aware. They know we discuss the activities of the day - what worked well, and when needed, what didn’t.
We are looking for someone who enjoys life – and can chores with fun activities –like playing music – dance contests, baking cookies, bike riding, hiking, swimming, impromptu soccer games on the driveway sport court, crafts, and the occasional Rock Band contests on the Wii. Experience is needed to ensure that you are comfortable with a full-time nanny position. Full time childcare is not an easy job and we want to be sure we hire someone who understands and is excited about the opportunity.
The salary for this live-in position is based on experience and is generally expected to be 350 weekly (including room and board) per week. Weekends are generally not working time, but we will occasionally (once a month –ish) have the nanny cover for a date night. |
