Nanny's Message to Families

Dear family, I have been in love with children since I, myself was a child. (I started volunteering in the church nursery when I was 12.) Being a high energy person, I love to get down to each child's level and play and explore. I have worked with every age group from infancy through twelve year old. (and older children through the youth group at church!) I have pretty high expectations for children. As I was taught when I was young, I enforce the importance of manners; saying please and thank you, taking turns, fair play, etc. I also expect children to clean up after themselves, with help, of course. Children need to be taught how to do such things. I would be a great match for a strict family. I am not a fan of sticking children in front of the television. I'd much rather find games and activities, and do art projects, and save the occasional movie or educational show for special times. (i.e. movie days, younger children's nap times to keep the house quieter) As of the beginning of October, I moved to Michigan from Seattle. I have spent over seven years working in childcare. I have been told I am amazing with children. The problem is, working in childcare burns you out fairly quickly. I want to work with children, but 5-7 one year olds at once is a bit stressful. I want to be able to have more one on one time with the children in my care, rather than only having time for the occasional down time when the schedule permits. I will be honest and up front here; many nanny jobs require a car and license. I have neither. In Seattle, I took public transportation everywhere. I am not opposed to taking the bus, or walking, or both.
